Although the Slicer Girls Track Team started their season with a loss, their performances last night proved they were winners through to the end. The girls went out and gave it their all and came out with not only multiple performance bests, but several top 3 finishes.
Ava Holtz started her track career placing 2nd in the 200 M Dash and 3rd in the 100. Bella Schreeg brought in a 2nd place for the Slicers in the 400 M. Brenna Sobecki lead the Slicer Girls in points with a 1st place finish in 2 individual events – 800 M and the 1600 M. She also helped the 4×400 relay team bring in a 1st place finish. Arianna Steele also placed in the 800 M, bringing a strong 2nd place finish. Ella Bensz placed 2nd in the 1600 M, giving La Porte the top two finishes in that event. Rylee Stephany had a great start of her season with a 3rd place finish in the 3200 M, as well as Lauren Hertges who placed 3rd in the 100 M Hurdles.
All 3 Slicer girls relays proved last night that they are going to be strong and extremely competitive this season. The 4 x 800 (E. Dubb, P. Willoughby, K. Hertges, R. Stephany) started the meet on a high note with a 1st place finish. The 4×100 squad (L. Hertges, L. Franklin, A. Wilson, T.Reaves) finished in 2nd in a very fast race, and the 4×400 (B. Sobecki, B. Schreeg, A. Steele, E. Bensz) showed us all that hard work pays off with a 1st place finish, 8 secs ahead of Mishawaka’s 2nd place.
Our Field Events also competed strong last night, too. Bri Thorp and Legacy Thomas tied for 2nd place in the high jump, while Abby Casto brought home a 3rd in the shot and Lyrics Thresh also a third in discus.
The Slicers Girls Track & Field will next compete on April 13th at Valparaiso, going against both Valpo and Lake Central. Meet starts at 4:30, hope to see you all there!
