The Slicer Gymnastics team started the season strong with a team score of 97.45. The top finisher for LaPorte was senior Madison Esmeyer with a 4th on vault (8.5), 5th on bars (7.75), 4th on beam (8.7), 4th on floor (8.7), and 4th all around (33.650).
Chesterton won with a team score of 109.1. Top finishers for Chesterton include senior Mia Pak 1st on vault (9.75), 1st on bars (9.8), 1st on beam (9.5), 2nd on floor (8.9), and 1st all around (37.95). Junior Caitlyn Cook was 3rd on vault (8.5), 2nd on bars (9.15), 3rd on beam (9.05), 1st on floor (9.0), and 2nd all around (35.7). Senior Chloe Larson 5th on vault (8.4), 3rd bars (8.55), 2nd beam (9.45), 3rd floor (8.75), and 3rd all around (35.15).
Other top performers for LaPorte included junior Ella Schable with a 7th on bars (7.6), 6th on beam (8.4), and 5th on floor (8.65); freshman Ava Penziol 9th on vault (7.7), 8th on bars (7.5), 9th on beam (7.6), 8th on floor (7.85), and 7th all around (30.65); sophomore Rosie Korell 7th on vault (8.0), 10th on bars (6.65), 7th on beam (8.0), 10th on floor (7.35)), and 7th all-around (30.65); sophomore Kate Thibideau 8th on vault (7.8), 11th on bars (6.05), 11th on beam (6.4), 11th on floor (7.2), and 10th all around (27.45); and junior Samara Hale 11th on vault (7.2) and 10th on beam (7.2).
The Slicers have shown great improvement from last season. Their highest team score last season was at Sectionals with a 97.0 and the girls started their season with a 97.45. The Slicers host Crown Point on Tuesday, Jan. 12 and will have their senior night.
