La Porte Varsity Slicers Come Up Short Against Penn La Porte Varsity Slicers could not keep up with Penn 10-5 on Monday. Penn opened the scoring in the bottom of the second thanks to three singles. Penn first got on the board when Kydin Horvath singled, scoring one run. Penn added one run in the third after Gavin Taylor doubled down the left field line. La Porte Varsity Slicers tied the game in the top of the fourth thanks to a single by CT Rusboldt, a double by Cody Benedict, a single by Keegan Ramos, and a single by Braxton Maxfield. Penn flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs on five hits to take the lead, 10-5. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Horvath that drove in two. Dawson French earned the win for Penn. The pitcher surrendered zero hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out three and walking one. Rusboldt took the loss for La Porte Varsity Slicers. The pitcher went three and one-third innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, striking out none and walking one. Benedict led things off on the mound for La Porte Varsity Slicers. The starting pitcher gave up seven hits and five runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking two. Cayden Stockbridge started on the bump for Penn. The starter allowed four hits and five runs over three innings, striking out two and walking two. Benedict drove the middle of the lineup, leading La Porte Varsity Slicers with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Maxfield, Rusboldt, Benedict, Reed Raymond, and Ramos each collected one hit for La Porte Varsity Slicers. La Porte Varsity Slicers were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Raymond made the most plays with five. Penn tallied 14 hits in the game. Horvath led Penn with three runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The catcher went 2-for-4 on the day. Dalton Zultanski, Horvath, Taylor, Brayden Plummer, and William Barnes each collected two hits for Penn. River Pecina stole two bases. Penn ran wild on the base paths, amassing five stolen bases for the game.
