La Porte Varsity Slicers Fall After Strong Showing By Portage La Porte Varsity Slicers couldn't keep up with Portage and fell 16-2 on Tuesday. La Porte Varsity Slicers got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Gage Raymond walked, and Keegan Ramos was struck by a pitch, each scoring one run. Portage flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth, scoring eight runs on four hits to take the lead, 9-2. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Braden on an 0-2 count that drove in two. Portage scored five runs on four hits in the top of the sixth inning. An error scored two runs, and Cole tripled, scoring three runs. Hacker earned the win for Portage. The pitcher allowed four hits and two runs (zero earned) over five innings, striking out six and walking five. Cody Ryden took the loss for La Porte Varsity Slicers. The righty went three and one-third innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on four hits, striking out two and walking six. Raymond and Ramos were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for La Porte Varsity Slicers. Pedro Garcia led La Porte Varsity Slicers with two hits in two at bats. Portage accumulated 13 hits in the game. Number nine hitter, Bogue, showed the depth of Portage's lineup, by leading them with three hits in four at bats. Cole and Young were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in three runs for Portage. Ortiz and De Garcia each collected multiple hits for Portage. Portage had patience at the plate, tallying 10 walks for the game. Braden, Ketchum, and Young led the team with two free passes each. Portage turned two double plays in the game.
