Powerful Pitching Performance From Khalen Matzke Carries La Porte Slicers JV Past Chesterton Junior Varsity Trojans

Khalen Matzke was dominant on the hill, as the right-handed pitcher rang up 10 strikeouts in La Porte Slicers JV's 12-3 victory over Chesterton Junior Varsity Trojans on Tuesday. Matzke gave up four hits and three runs over six innings while walking five. James Morgan collected three hits in three at bats in the win. Morgan doubled in the first inning, singled in the third inning, and singled in the fifth inning. La Porte Slicers JV got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Noah Combs hit a sacrifice fly, and Matzke grounded out, each scoring one run. A single by Nolan Wilson extended the La Porte Slicers JV lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the second inning. La Porte Slicers JV scored seven runs on one hit in the bottom of the sixth inning. Morgan drew a walk, scoring one run, Combs drew a walk, scoring one run, Matzke drew a walk, scoring one run, Wes Kaiser drew a walk, scoring one run, Xander Daley was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Ethan Badger was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, and a wild pitch scored one run. Lincoln Grohs tossed one inning of shutout ball for La Porte Slicers JV in relief. The hurler allowed zero hits, striking out one and walking one. La Porte Slicers JV tallied 13 hits in the game. Matzke provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led La Porte Slicers JV with three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Daley, Jon Rinkel, and Nate Moses each collected multiple hits for La Porte Slicers JV. The Slicers are next in action Wednesday, April 23rd when they will again take on Chesterton. This time LaPorte will head on the road for a 4:30 pm start time at Chesterton High School.
