LaPorte Varsity Softball’s Madi Squire Powers Through Portage Madi Squire hit two home runs and drove in six as LaPorte defeated Portage 18-0 on Tuesday. Squire homered in the fourth and fifth innings. Mia Maxel struck out 12 batters on the day. The hurler gave up zero runs over five innings. LaPorte jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Evie Travis tripled, scoring one run, Shayla Sorg singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, and Maxel singled, scoring two runs. A double by Lexi Surowiec extended the LaPorte lead to 6-0 in the top of the second inning. Allie Wiencek homered to center field, scoring two runs in the top of the third for the LaPorte. LaPorte scored six runs on six hits in the top of the fourth inning. Jersey Worthington doubled, scoring one run, Paige White singled, scoring one run, Squire homered to center field, scoring three runs, and Travis singled, scoring one run. Four LaPorte runs crossed the plate in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 18-0. Kieanna Simpson singled, scoring one run, and Squire homered to left field, scoring three runs. LaPorte piled up 21 hits in the game. Squire and Travis each collected four hits for LaPorte. Simpson, Surowiec, Sorg, and Worthington each collected multiple hits for LaPorte.
