Girls Swimming Finishes 6th at DAC Championship Meet

The Slicers Girls Swimming and Dive Team finished 6th and the DAC Championship Meet today in Valparaiso. The Slicers consistently dropped time and had lifetime best and season best times. Our girls have been working hard, and this meet showed they are in good position heading into Sectionals 3 weeks from now. LaPorte opened the meet with a 5th place finish in the 200 Medley Relay, with: Cali Hatala (backstroke), Noor Hakim (breaststroke), Megan Zolvinski (butterfly), and Lily Siford (freestyle). Their time of 1:58.73 was 2 seconds faster than their season best so far. Isabel Barron finished 13th in the 200 Freestyle with a season best time. Katelyn Peterson and Sarah Peterson also had lifetime PRs to finish 17th and 18th respectively. Cali Hatala dropped nearly 3 seconds to finish 12th in the 200 Individual Medley, with Liz Luna dropping 12 seconds to finish 17th. Maddi Griffin also had a solid race with a 2 second time drop. Megan Zolvinski and Lily Siford finished 14th and 15th in the 50 Freestyle. Zolvinski then finished 10th in the 100 Butterfly, with Noor Hakim finishing 13th. They both had season best times. Isabel Barron had a season best time in the 100 Freestyle to finish 13th, with Lily Siford also dropping time to finish 16th. Katelyn Peterson had her lifetime best in the 100 free to finish 17th, one spot out of the points. In the 500 Freestyle, Regan Hughes, Sarah Peterson, and Liz Luna finished 16, 17, & 18, with Peterson having the biggest time drop of 10 seconds. In the 200 Freestyle Relay, Lily Siford, Katelyn Peterson, Megan Zolvinski, and Isabel Barron finished 5th with a season best time. Cali Hatala, Regan Hughes, and Lyla Bannwart finished 14, 16, & 18 in the 100 Backstroke, with all 3 swimmers having season best times and Bannwart having a lifetime best time by dropping 10 seconds. Noor Hakim and Nala Hammoud both had excellent 100 Breaststroke races, finishing 11th and 17th respectively. One of the most exciting races of the evening was the 400 Freestyle, with LaPorte finishing 6th after dropping 10 seconds, with Isabel Barron, Katelyn Peterson, Cali Hatala and Noor Hakim. Peterson, Hatala and Hakim all had lifetime best splits to finish out the meet. The Slicers have finished their regular season, and will start the taper process in preparation for Sectionals in 2 1/2 weeks. Always proud. Go Slicers! Coach Brahim
