LaPorte traveled to Hobart today and beat both the Brickies 121.50-64.50, and the Merrillville Pirates 143-39. The Slicers have had several gruelling workouts in a row, and they still had a great meet. Kudos to Hobart and Merrillville for putting up a good fight. Both of their programs have gotten a lot stronger since last year. Knowing we were favored to win, we had our top swimmers swim only one individual event plus relays. We also swam off-events and the results were impressive. Winning for LaPorte were: 200 Medley Relay: Roman Garay (backstroke), Abbas Hakim (breaststroke), Otto Wildhart (butterfly), and Chaise Adrian (freestyle). The same quartet of swimmers also won both the 200 Freestyle Relay and 400 Freestyle Relay. Chase Childers and James Quadlin went 1-2 in the 200 Freestyle. Abbas Hakim won the 200 Individual Medley. Andrew Hayes won Diving with a score of 182.80. To change things up, Diving Coach Matt Mosley listed Marco Serna as JV so Freshman diver Dylan Kalsow could dive Varsity. After all dives were complete, Marco Serna actually had the top score, but didn't get points because he was listed as Junior Varsity. Roman Garay won the 100 Butterfly, with Karter Griffin coming in second. Chaise Adrian won the 500 Freestyle with a solid race. Freshmen Cameron Hatala and Hugo Luna went 1-2 in the 100 Backstroke. Butterfly Specialist Otto Wildhart won the 100 Breaststroke in 1:03.76, which is a fantastic time for someone who rarely swims Breaststroke. Shoutouts to Malachi Talbot, who continues to drop time in nearly every meet. Milo Jimenez also had a strong performance. Milo swims with intensity, and he sets a good example for other athletes. The Slicers record climbs to 14-3. They travel to Merrillville next Tuesday for their regular Conference meet vs the Pirates. Always proud. Go Slicers! Coach Brahim
