Slicers win Holiday Tourney Opener 76-56

The Varsity Boys basketball team defeated Fremont in the opener of the Steiner Homes La Porte Holiday Tournament on Friday afternoon. La Porte was led by Griffin Ott-Large with 20 points. Nic Spence had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Sawyer Tonagel also had 13 points, knocking down three second half three-pointers, and Reed Raymond added 12 points and 8 rebounds for La Porte, who improved to 6-3 on the year with the win. The Slicers are back in action on Saturday in the holiday tourney semifinals, playing Goshen at 11:30 AM. Goshen earned a spot in the semifinals after defeating Munster 55-49 in their opening round matchup. Also on Day 1 of the Holiday Tourney, Northridge defeated Logansport 73-29, while McCutcheon knocked off Lowell 72-42. Northridge will face off with McCutcheon at 10 AM at Slicer Gym for the other spot in the finals (7 PM, Saturday). In the consolation bracket, Lowell defeated Logansport 57-49 and Munster defeated Fremont 67-45. Fremont will face off with Lowell in the 7th place game, while Munster will play Lowell for 5th place.
