Boys Track finishes 3rd at DAC Championships

Final Scores: Crown Point 129 Merrillville 112 LaPorte 101 Chesterton 82 Valparaiso 75 Lake Central 72 Portage 49 Michigan City 4 The LaPorte Boys Track and Field team earned a 3rd place overall finish at the Duneland Athletic Conference Championships in Merrillville last night. Highlighting the Slicers evening was Willie Clay and Tayshaun Williams. Clay earned the title of DAC champ in the 400 with a personal best time of 49.85 (.05 seconds off the school record). Williams earned two individual DAC titles winning the 100m dash with a new school and Merrillville facility record time of 10.76, the 200m dash with a new DAC and Merrillville facility record time of 21.68. Williams and Clay, joined by Landyn Hunt, and Dylan West won the 4x400 meter relay with a season best time of 3:24.42, which is less than a second off the school record. Other impressive performances on the night was the 3rd place finish from Drew Flores in the 100m (10.97), the 2nd and 4th place finish from Hunter Quadlin (4:27.03), and Liam Lilly (4:27.25), Destin Matzke's 4th place finish in the long jump (21-5.5), Landyn Hunt's 4th place finish in the 400m dash (51.63), Dylan West's 5th place finish in the 300m hurdles, Brayden Sobecki's 3rd place finish in the 3200m (9:50.86), Malachi Washington's 5th and 6th place finishes in the shot put (45-8.5) and discus (118-9) respectively, and the 2nd place 4x100 relay team of Jonah Cochran, Kiegan Henkel, Destin Matzke, and Drew Flores (43.75).
