Big Day At The Plate Propels LaPorte Slicers JV Baseball Past South Bend Adams

Joey Kirk drove in four runs on two hits to lead LaPorte past South Bend Adams 16-2 on Wednesday. Kirk doubled in the first inning, scoring three runs, and tripled in the second inning, scoring one. The Slicers flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs on three hits to take a 5-1 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was Kirk’s double. LaPorte added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Keegan Ramos grounded out, Kirk tripled and Reed Raymond singled each scoring one run. The Slicers added one run in the third. Ramos was hit by a pitch, making the score 9-1. LaPorte scored scored seven runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth. Khalen Matzke and Xander Daley drew walks, each scoring one run, Nolan Wilson singled, scoring one, an error scored another, Evan Sittig hit into a fielder’s choice, but scored a run and Raymond singled scoring another to wrap up the inning. The Slicers tallied 11 hits in the game. Raymond went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead LaPorte in hits. Wilson collected two hits in three at bats. Cody Benedict earned the win for the Slicers. Benedict gave up three hits and one run over two innings, striking out five and walking one. Ramos pitched two innings of zero-run ball for LaPorte in relief. Ramos surrendered one hit, striking out five and walking two. Steven Poe threw the final inning of the game giving up one run on one hit, striking out two and walking none. The Slicers JV Baseball team will next be in action Tuesday, May 7th, when they will travel to Merrillville to take on the Pirates. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
