LaPorte Slicers JV Baseball Defeats John Glenn On Back Of Clutch Display From Joey Kirk

Joey Kirk drove in five runs on three hits to lead LaPorte past John Glenn 13-0 on Saturday at DeCamp Field. Kirk doubled in the first inning, scoring two runs, and doubled again in the third scoring three more. Preston Scheidt was also impressive on the mound earning his fourth victory of the year. The starting pitcher surrendered four hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out four and walking two. Wade Stout pitched one inning of scoreless ball for the Slicers in relief. Stout gave up zero hits and walked one. LaPorte got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Kirk doubled, scoring two, Reed Raymond doubled, scoring one run, Khalen Matzke doubled, scoring one run, and Noah Combs singled scoring another. Two more Slicer runs crossed the plate in the second inning to extend their lead to 7-0. Owen Barenthin hit a solo home run to left field and Raymond drew a walk, scoring another. LaPorte scored six runs on three hits in the bottom of the third inning. Xander Daley drew a walk, scoring one run, Keegan Ramos doubled, scoring one run, Kirk doubled, scoring three runs and an error scoring another wrapped up the inning. The Slicers collected 12 hits in the game. Barenthin and Combs each collected multiple hits with Kirk leading the way with three. Raymond paced LaPorte with two walks. The Slicers had patience at the plate collecting six walks on the game. LaPorte was sure handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Combs had the most chances in the field with four.
