La Porte Varsity Softball split with New Prairie on Saturday. New Prairie won a tightly contested game one with a score of 0-1. La Porte won game two with a score of 11-1. Game 1 Game one was nothing short of a pitcher's duel between two of Northern Indiana’s finest in the circle. New Prairie’s Ava Geyer gave up just 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 14 over 7 innings. La Porte’s Mia Maxel gave up just 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 8 over 6 innings. Both pitchers were extremely efficient in the circle. Each throwing nearly 70 percent strikes, they kept the opposing teams hitters off balance throughout the entire ball game. New Prairie’s only run came in the bottom of the first when Chelminiak doubled scoring the lone run of the game. La Porte threatened with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth inning but couldn’t capitalize. Game 2 La Porte scored 6 runs in the top of the first inning of Game two. The big inning was led by Reghan Penziol, Marcy Bearickx, and Lauren Poe. Penziol and Bearickx each singled while Poe hit a home run to center field. La Porte piled up 15 hits in the game. Poe led the team with two runs batted in while Reghan Stephany led the team in hits going 4-for-5 from the leadoff position. Penziol, Allie Wiencek, Madi Squire, and Bearickx each collected multiple hits for La Porte. Bearickz earned the win for La Porte in the circle. Bearickx only surrendered 1 run striking out 5 over 7 innings.
