LaPorte's Boys Swimming and Diving finished 3rd at the Valpo Sectional today, with 369.5 points. The boys arrived at the Natatorium pumped and ready to race. The Slicers jumped in the water for the 200 Medley Relay, and in the first event of Sectional Finals, they made the State Cut, and showed they were here to race. They finished second with a screaming fast time of 1:35.51, behind: Jakob Schroeder (backstroke), Abbas Hakim (breaststroke), Otto Wildhart (butterfly), and Chaise Adrian (freestyle). The relay missed breaking the LaPorte High School record by .13 seconds. Hopefully, they'll break it down in Indy next week. Freshman Jakob Schroeder was the Sectional Champion in the 100 Backstroke, with a State Cut time of 51.87. Schroeder swam a lifetime PR, breaking the 52 second barrier for the second time. Schroeder also finished 3rd in the 100 Butterfly. Junior Abbas Hakim is headed down to the State Championship in the 100 Breaststroke. Hakim finished 2nd, and his time of 58.38 seeds him in the top 16 at State. Hakim also had a solid swim in the 200 Individual Medley, finishing 4th in 1:59.46. The 400 Freestyle Relay of Adrian, Schroeder, Gavin Crail, and Hakim is also headed to the State Championship, getting the call-down, with a fast time of 3:14.86. The boys all had great splits, with Hakim anchoring in 47.90 seconds. Besides the two individual State swimmers, and two State relays, the Slicers had amazing swims across the board, with a lot of time on the awards podium. Diver Andrew Hayes finished 4th, and is headed to Tuesday's Diving Regional. Top finishers for LaPorte: 200 Medley Relay: 2nd.
