When Lake Central arrived at the Slicer Natatorium, LaPorte was ready for the challenge. It's the first time in years LaPorte was in a position to seriously challenge the Indians. We knew going in it was going to be a close meet. LaPorte dominated the specialty strokes (Butterfly, Breast and Back), while Lake Central dominated the Freestyle events. There were a couple of tight races that could have swung the meet in our favor. This is a sport where a few hundredths of a second can make a big difference. Overall, our boys were incredibly focused and poised. The Slicers opened up with a big win in the 200 Medley Relay behind: Jake Schroeder (backstroke), Abbas Hakim (breaststroke), Otto Wildhart (butterfly), and Gavin Crail (freestyle). Chaise Adrian had a great race in the 200 Freestyle, finishing second to standout Nolan Meyers of Lake Central. Adrian also finished second in the 500 Freestyle behind Meyers, while Gavin Crail had a solid race to third. Abbas Hakim won the 200 Individual Medley with a season best swim. Otto Wildhart had a lifetime PR in the 50 Freestyle to finish second, and won the 100 Butterfly, with Jake Schroeder finishing a close second. Roman Garay had a lifetime PR in the 100 Free to capture second. LaPorte finished second in the 200 Freestyle Relay .04 seconds behind Lake Central. Wildhart, Allen Fuller, Garay, and Adrian went 1:32.71 with the Indians going 1:32.67. Jake Schroeder easily won the 100 Backstroke. Crail and Hakim went 1-2 in the 100 Breaststroke. Finally, the 400 Freestyle Relay of Adrian, Schroeder, Crail, and Hakim won their event with some crazy fast splits. I can't wait to see what these boys do when DAC's and Sectionals roll around. This team makes me proud every day. As a coach, I ask a lot of my student/athletes, and tonight they proved they can hang with the fastest teams in our Conference. In a game of hundredths....Oh, so close! Always proud. Go Slicers! Coach Brahim
