LaPorte Volleyball wins Sectional opener

The LaPorte volleyball team improved to 28-4 on the season with a 25-6, 25-8, 25-7 Sectional-opening victory over South Bend Riley on Thursday night at Michigan City High School. The Slicers got contributions from all 16 rostered players, including Avery Tulacz with eight kills. Ava Holtz and Kaitlin Wilson each added five kills, while Kate Buckley tallied four kills. Madison Copeland (3 kills), Abbie DeLee (2 kills), Elizabeth Anglin (2 kills), Madison Dhoore (2 kills) and Bella Meier (1 kill) all contributed to the offensive totals. Lilly Buckley dished out a team-high 14 assists and Meier added 11 assists. Defensively, Alessia Vitali led the way with six digs and Lilly Buckley had four digs. Mia Mendoza contributed three digs, while Izzy Freese, Tulacz, Emalee Maesch, Vittoria Bruno and Holtz all had two digs each. On the service line, Vitali had a team-high seven aces with Anglin adding three aces and Maesch contributing two aces. At the net, Anglin had two block kills. The Slicers continue their post-season trek in the Sectional semifinals at 1 pm on Saturday against South Bend Adams.
