Bats Show Up In La Porte Varsity Softball Win Against South Central

Both La Porte Varsity Softball and South Central had their offenses going on Thursday, but La Porte eventually prevailed 10-9. La Porte collected 13 hits, while South Central had 13. A home run to center field by Madi Squire on the sixth pitch of the at-bat put La Porte on the board in the top of the first. A single by Evie Travis gave La Porte the lead, 4-3, in the top of the second. La Porte took the lead in the top of the third inning after Shayla Sorg homered to center field, Allie Wiencek grounded out, Mia Johnson singled to right field, and Isabella Escobedo singled to center field, each scoring one run. La Porte took the lead in the top of the sixth. Wiencek singled, scoring two runs, to give La Porte the advantage, 10-8. Kieanna Simpson earned the win for La Porte. The starter allowed 13 hits and nine runs (seven earned) over seven innings, striking out four and walking seven. La Porte Varsity Slicers amassed 13 hits in the game. Squire drove the middle of the lineup, leading La Porte with three runs batted in. The shortstop went 2-for-3 on the day. Travis, Squire, Lexi Surowiec, and Sorg each collected two hits for La Porte. La Porte turned one double play in the game.
