LaPorte Slicer Varsity Surge Past Portage Varsity Indians Thanks To Big Sixth Inning By GameChanger Media LaPorte Slicer Varsity scored six runs in the sixth inning, which helped them defeat Portage Varsity Indians 11-5 on Tuesday. Cody Benedict homered to right field, scoring three runs, Jordan Anderson drew a walk, scoring one run, and Khalen Matzke singled, scoring two runs. Portage Varsity Indians were the first to get on the board in the first when Hunter Cole grounded out, scoring one run. LaPorte Slicer Varsity took the lead in the top of the fourth inning after Portage Varsity Indians committed an error, and Xander Daley walked, each scoring one run. Portage Varsity Indians took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after Lucas Banogon singled down the right field line, and Hunter Petri walked, each scoring one run. LaPorte Slicer Varsity captured the lead, 4-3, in the top of the fifth after Joey Kirk singled down the right field line, and Anderson grounded out, each scoring one run. Kaleb Hacker flew out, which helped Portage Varsity Indians tie the game at four in the bottom of the fifth. Benedict earned the win for LaPorte Slicer Varsity. The pitcher allowed 12 hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out six and walking two. Matt Ramian took the loss for Portage Varsity Indians. The righty went one and one-third innings, surrendering six runs on two hits, striking out two and walking three. Hacker started on the hill for Portage Varsity Indians. The starting pitcher surrendered three hits and four runs (two earned) over four and one-third innings, striking out six and walking five. Benedict drove the middle of the lineup, leading LaPorte Slicer Varsity with three runs batted in. The pitcher went 2-for-4 on the day. Benedict and Kirk each collected two hits for LaPorte Slicer Varsity. LaPorte Slicer Varsity had patience at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game. Kirk and CT Rusboldt led the team with two walks each. LaPorte Slicer Varsity didn't commit a single error in the field. Rusboldt had the most chances in the field with eight. Portage Varsity Indians tallied 12 hits in the game. Cole drove the middle of the lineup, leading Portage Varsity Indians with two runs batted in. The outfielder went 1-for-4 on the day. Banogon led Portage Varsity Indians with three hits in four at bats. Tyler Pirowski and Petri each collected multiple hits for Portage Varsity Indians. Petri stole two bases. Next up for LaPorte Slicer Varsity is a game against Portage Varsity Indians on Wednesday.
