LaPorte Slicer Varsity Stymied By Valparaiso Vikings By GameChanger Media LaPorte Slicer Varsity had trouble keeping up with Valparaiso Vikings in an 18-2 loss on Wednesday. Valparaiso Vikings jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after an error scored one run, an error scored two runs, and Cooper Gear singled, scoring two runs. Valparaiso Vikings scored nine runs on six hits in the top of the fifth inning. DJ Malloy drew a walk, scoring one run, Logan Dilley singled, scoring one run, Ben Glass singled, scoring one run, Jack Baumgardner singled, scoring one run, Beckett Reaume doubled, scoring two runs, Trent Gill doubled, scoring two runs, and Jaden Andrews singled, scoring one run. Lucas Haas earned the win for Valparaiso Vikings. The starter allowed seven hits and two runs (zero earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking none. Cody Benedict took the loss for LaPorte Slicer Varsity. The starting pitcher went four innings, allowing nine runs (five earned) on eight hits, striking out seven and walking two. Keegan Ramos, Joey Kirk, and Noah Combs each collected two hits for LaPorte Slicer Varsity. Kirk and Jon Rinkel were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for LaPorte Slicer Varsity. Valparaiso Vikings piled up 14 hits in the game. Malloy drove the middle of the lineup, leading Valparaiso Vikings with three runs batted in. The number three hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Reaume, Malloy, Glass, and Baumgardner each collected two hits for Valparaiso Vikings. Valparaiso Vikings had patience at the plate, piling up six walks for the game. Gill and Will Jepsen led the team with two walks each. Valparaiso Vikings turned one double play in the game. LaPorte Slicer Varsity play at home on Saturday against Lowell Red Devils in their next game.
