La Porte Varsity Softball Victorious In Nail-Biter Against Jimtown

It came down to the wire on Friday, as La Porte Varsity Softball grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 10-9, over Jimtown. The game was tied at nine in the bottom of the seventh when an error scored one run. Shayla Sorg drove in four runners in the win. The infielder went 2-4 on the day. La Porte opened the scoring in the bottom of the third thanks to two singles. La Porte first got on the board when Sorg singled, scoring one run. Jimtown tied the game in the top of the fourth thanks to a triple by Lily Gaugler, and a fly out by Claire Carlson. La Porte took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Sorg homered to left field, scoring three runs, to give La Porte the edge, 6-3. Jimtown scored six runs on five hits in the top of the seventh inning. An error scored one run, Baylee Laird singled, scoring one run, Gaugler singled, scoring two runs, and Carlson singled, scoring two runs. Kieanna Simpson earned the win for La Porte. The starting pitcher surrendered four hits and three runs over four innings, striking out four and walking one. Layla Winrott took the loss for Jimtown. The pitcher went three and one-third innings, surrendering six runs (five earned) on six hits, striking out four and walking five. Addison Combs appeared in relief for La Porte. La Porte tallied 12 hits in the game. Madi Squire and Allie Wiencek were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits for La Porte. Paige White paced La Porte with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. Evie Travis stole two bases. Jimtown collected 10 hits in the game. Gaugler, Nora Hochstetler, and Laird each collected two hits for Jimtown. Gaugler and Carlson were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in three runs for Jimtown. La Porte will play at home on Tuesday against Crown Point in their next game.
