La Porte Slicers JV Trounce Merrillville Junior Varsity Pirates

La Porte Slicers JV won big over Merrillville Junior Varsity Pirates 18-1 on Tuesday. La Porte got on the board in the top of the first inning after an error scored one run, Ian Mitchell doubled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Nolan Darrell singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, an error scored two runs, Jayden Proffitt hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Mitchell singled, scoring one run. The Slicers added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Brayden Watson doubled to right field, Carl Crittendon grounded out, and scored on a wild pitch, each scoring one run. La Porte scored six runs on three hits in the top of the third inning. Wes Kaiser drew a walk, scoring one run, Darrell drew a walk, scoring one run, Watson singled, scoring two runs, and Crittendon was struck by a pitch, driving in a run. Mitchell earned the win for the Slicers. The starter gave up two hits and one run over two and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking two. Eli Combs pitched two and one-third innings of no-run ball for La Porte in relief. The right-handed pitcher surrendered zero hits, striking out five and walking one. The Slicers collected 10 hits in the game. Mitchell went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead La Porte in hits. The Slicers had patience at the plate, amassing nine walks for the game. Madix Splix and Darrell led the team with two walks each. Watson stole two bases. La Porte ran wild on the base paths, piling up eight stolen bases for the game. The Slicers were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Kaiser had the most chances in the field with eight. The La Porte Slicers JV will next be in action Wednesday, May 6th, when they will again take on Merrillville, this time at home. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 pm at DeCamp Field.
