LaPorte Slicer Varsity Triumph Over Elkhart Lions Varsity By GameChanger Media LaPorte Slicer Varsity were triumphant over Elkhart Lions Varsity 5-3 on Saturday. Elkhart Lions Varsity got on the board in the first inning after Nolan Linn singled, scoring one run. A single by Donnie Elam extended the Elkhart Lions Varsity lead to 2-0 in the top of the third inning. In the bottom of the fourth inning, LaPorte Slicer Varsity went back into the lead after Khalen Matzke singled, Keegan Ramos walked, and CT Rusboldt walked, each scoring one run. Elam grounded into a double play, which helped Elkhart Lions Varsity tie the game at three in the top of the fifth. A wild pitch gave LaPorte Slicer Varsity the lead, 4-3, in the bottom of the fifth. Joey Kirk earned the win for LaPorte Slicer Varsity. The righty allowed two hits and zero runs over one inning, striking out two and walking one. Aidan O’Brien took the loss for Elkhart Lions Varsity. The right-handed pitcher went one and one-third innings, surrendering one run (zero earned) on zero hits, striking out two and walking three. Cody Benedict began the game for LaPorte Slicer Varsity. The pitcher gave up five hits and two runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out six and walking one. Max Shreiner led things off on the bump for Elkhart Lions Varsity. The hurler surrendered two hits and three runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking three. Rusboldt collected the save. Matzke appeared in relief for LaPorte Slicer Varsity. Rusboldt went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Matzke, Kirk, and Rusboldt each collected one hit for LaPorte Slicer Varsity. LaPorte Slicer Varsity had patience at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. Jordan Anderson and Rusboldt led the team with two walks each. LaPorte Slicer Varsity turned two double plays in the game. Elkhart Lions Varsity collected nine hits in the game. Logan Kelly and Elam were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Elkhart Lions Varsity. Linn and Elam were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Elkhart Lions Varsity. LaPorte Slicer Varsity play at home on Tuesday against Michigan City Wolves in their next game.
