LaPorte Slicer Varsity Firing On All Cylinders Against Marquette Catholic Varsity Blazers By GameChanger Media LaPorte Slicer Varsity easily dispatched Marquette Catholic Varsity Blazers on Monday, 10-0. LaPorte Slicer Varsity jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Cody Benedict singled, scoring one run, and Andrew Walsh induced Jon Rinkel to hit into a fielder's choice, but two runs scored. LaPorte Slicer Varsity added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after CT Rusboldt hit a sacrifice fly, Joey Kirk singled down the right field line, and Rinkel was struck by a pitch, each scoring one run. Kirk earned the win for LaPorte Slicer Varsity. The righty allowed one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out five and walking none. Walsh took the loss for Marquette Catholic Varsity Blazers. The righty went four innings, surrendering eight runs (five earned) on seven hits, striking out three and walking three. Nate Moses and Khalen Matzke each threw shutout innings for LaPorte Slicer Varsity in relief. Benedict and Kirk were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for LaPorte Slicer Varsity. Kirk provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led LaPorte Slicer Varsity with three runs batted in. The pitcher went 2-for-3 on the day. Matzke stole three bases. LaPorte Slicer Varsity ran wild on the base paths, piling up six stolen bases for the game. LaPorte Slicer Varsity were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Noah Combs had the most chances in the field with 10. Tim Wadle went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead Marquette Catholic Varsity Blazers in hits. Next up for LaPorte Slicer Varsity is a game at Chesterton Trojans on Tuesday.
