LaPorte Girls Track and Field suffered a set of losses on Tuesday, April 14 against Merrillville (31.33-100.66) and Lake Central (18.33-113.66, but had many impressive performances. Top scoring individuals were as follows: 4x800m Relay- Madalyn Kreamer, Kate Howes, Denisse Luna, Vivian Leniski (12:05.28) 3rd Place 100m Hurdles- Lana Schable (19.35) 3rd Place, Si’Ana Lewis (22.22) 5th Place 100m Dash- Kyria Zapala (13.03) 5th Place 1600m Run- Caylin VanShoyck (5:36.80) 5th Place, Denisse Luna (7:05.73) 7th Place 4x100m Relay- Lana Schable, Piper Cushway, Kyria Zapala, Taniya Campbell (51.85) 3rd Place 400m Dash- Olivia Yuhasz (1:09.10) 6th Place 300m Hurdles- Lana Schable (53.88) 6th Place 800m Run- Madalyn Kreamer (2:45.52) 6th Placce 200m Dash- Kyria Zapala (26.38) 4th Place 3200m Run- Caylin VanShoyck (12:09.65) 5th Place 4x400m Relay- Madalyn Kreamer, Samantha Best, Lana Schable, Danica St. Arnaud (4:45.00) 3rd Place High Jump- Claire Hardesty (4’6”) 4th Place Long Jump- Taniya Campbell (16’8.5”) 2nd Place Pole Vault- Anna Beck (7'0") 4th Place, Josie Smith (7’0”) 4th Place, Grace Caviston (6’0”) 6th Place, Emma Talbert (6’0”) 6th Place Discus- Rae Dawsey (97-04) 4th Place, Esme Harner (81-02) 6th Place Shot Put- Rae Dawsey (34-02.25) 4th Place, Alyviah Mason (32-09) 7th Place Although the LPGTF crew went 0-2 on the day, there was an abundance of impressive performances from the entire team. Kyria Zapala’s 200m performance places her as the fastest junior in school history, and the 4th fastest in school history. Taniya Campbell’s long jump performance places her as the best sophomore jumper in school history, and the 5th best jumper in school history. Many other LPGTF members placed themselves on our all time lists by grades throughout the night. The coaching staff is extremely excited to see what else the team can accomplish as the season continues. LPGTF is 0-2 on the season. The varsity squad will be back in action on 4/17 at Elkhart High School to compete at the Elkhart Lioness Invitational. The 4x100m, Taniya Campbell (100m), and Kyria Zapala (100m & 200m) will be in action on 4/17 at Lafayette Jefferson High School to compete in the Lafayette Sprint Showcase—competing against the best sprinters in the state.
