Strong Hitting Not Enough As LaPorte Varsity Slicers Falls To Elkhart. Even though LaPorte collected 12 hits to Elkhart's 11, they still fell 10-8 on Saturday. Shayla Sorg led LaPorte with four hits. LaPorte got on the board in the top of the first inning after Lexi Surowiec grounded out, scoring one run, and Kieanna Simpson homered to right field, scoring two runs. Elkhart flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs on two hits to take the lead, 5-3. The biggest blow in the inning was a triple by Naveya Merrill following a 7-pitch at-bat that drove in three. Dani Amaya singled down the left field line, which helped LaPorte tie the game at five in the top of the third. Sorg doubled down the left field line, which helped LaPorte tie the game at five in the top of the fourth. Elkhart took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Bailey Harris-Rogers lined out, scoring one run, to give Elkhart the upper hand, 6-5. Evie Travis hit a sacrifice fly, which helped LaPorte tie the game at six in the top of the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Elkhart went back into the lead after Michaela Manoloff hit into a fielder's choice, Rachae Kidder singled to center field, Addison Reid doubled to center field, and Natalie Smith singled to center field, each scoring one run. Addison Combs took the loss for LaPorte. The pitcher went five innings, giving up 10 runs on 11 hits, striking out four and walking three. LaPorte amassed 12 hits in the game. Simpson and Audrey Kneifel each drove in two runs for LaPorte. Allie Wiencek collected two hits for LaPorte in five at bats. LaPorte had patience at the plate, collecting five walks for the game.
