The Slicers started Saturday’s game with immediacy, scoring 3 unanswered goals in the first 10 minutes. The Slicers opened the scoring with a brilliant shot by Sophomore Morgan Llewellyn, assisted by a cross from Senior Jaquelline Leal. Less than one minute later, Sophomore Gabrielle Latchford took a break away long pass to a one on one with Mishawaka’s Keeper to score the second goal of the match. One minute later Latchford scored again on a assist from Leal. Mishawaka tightened up and after numerous saves from their Keeper, Sophomore Madison Coates scored on a shot from the 18.
With 11 minutes left in the first half Mishawaka slipped past the defense and snuck a ball into the corner of the goal, blemishing Senior Keeper Rylee Penziol’s near perfect performance.
In the second half backup Keeper Stephanie Salgado took the net and kept Mishawaka off the score board for the remaining 40 minutes. Within the opening minute Coates scored on a assist from Leal. making the score 5-1. After many shots and attempts the Slicers landed their final goal with 4 minutes remaining when Llewellyn made an amazing cross-body shot that went just out of reach of the keeper.
Noteworthy performances by Juniors Megan Blank, Brianna Kehoe, Sophomores Jasmine Diaz, Shelby Linn for maintaining a near flawless defense for eighty minutes. Midfielders Erin Johnson, Emily Osowski, and forward Stephanie Salgado for their assists, aggressive attacking and possession that made this victory possible.
