Game Recap

The LPVB Slicers (29-9, 10-4 DAC) run to state was cut short Saturday at the Huntington North Semi-State in a four set loss to Crown Point, 25-27, 23-25, 27-25, 23-25. The Slicers came out and made a statement about their play, as the entire match was close, leaving fans from both sides on pins and needles as the teams traded rallies and points. The team showed tremendous growth from the first meeting against CP and made a statement about where the program is headed. Leading the way offensively Bayli Lebo (13 kills), Reilly Briggs (12 kills), Natalie Santana (9 kills), and Kara Cooper (8 kills). Defensively, Natalie Santana paced the Slicers with four total blocks and Alexa Kosior had three. The back row played amazingly, as Bayli Lebo registered 21 digs. Gillian Santana had 19, and Grace Pacy and Courtney Lindquist each had 16. Pay finished the match with 32 assists.

The Slicers finish the season as sectional and regional champions. They also won the LaPorte Invitational and the Warsaw Invitational tournaments this season. LPVB was third in the DAC. The team also says goodbye to five seniors who have devoted much of their time and energy into the program and will not be forgotten.

Bayli Lebo finishes a stellar volleyball career at LPHS, one which will be remembered as one of the best all around careers in school history. During her time at LPHS, Bayli accumulated 1,220 kills, 98 total blocks, 1,801 digs, and 158 aces. She is truly one of the best all around players in the area.

Natalie Santana closes out her career as one of the most reliable and efficient hitters in school history. She had a career .304 hitting percentage, which led to career total 1,194 kills. One can imagine her kill total barring previous injuries early in her career. She was also a fantastic blocker, shutting down opposing hitters 272 times, with 181 of those by herself. She also had 82 aces.

Courtney Lindquist leaves her mark as the most trusted passer in the back row, showing her level headed play as libero for the Slicers all season long. She finishes her career with 1,112 digs, 1,632 serve receives, and 90 aces.

Alexa Kosior showed her grit this season, doing whatever it took to make her team better. Her optimism was evident throughout the season. She finishes her career with 239 kills, 50 total blocks, and 117 digs.

Brandy Michie’s athleticism and tenacity on the court were assets throughout the season and her career for the Slicers. She finishes her career with 365 kills, 111 total blocks, 120 digs, and 37 aces.

The LPVB Slicers want to thank the community, parents, and LPHS staff for their support this season. The program will miss their seniors, but the coaching staff if grateful for the example they set for future classes of LPVB.
