LaPorte Slicers JV Baseball Walks It Off Against New Prairie

It came down to the wire in the second game for LaPorte on Saturday as the JV baseball team grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 3-2, over New Prairie. The game was tied at two in the bottom of the eighth when Reed Raymond laced a single over the center fielders head scoring the game winning run. Khalen Matzke had a great performance on the mound as the pitching was strong on both sides. Matzke got the no decision, but started the game and went seven innings surrendering five hits and two runs while striking out four and walking four. Steven Poe earned the win for the Slicers . Poe allowed zero hits and zero runs over one inning, striking out two and walking one. Keegan Ramos singled, which helped LaPorte tie the game at one in the bottom of the third. The Cougars took the lead back in the sixth, but Dawson Shreve singled in the bottom of the seventh to retie the game at two. Raymond went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Slicers in hits. Ramos, Raymond and Shreve each drove in a run for LaPorte. The Slicers were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Joey Kirk made the most plays with seven. LaPorte Slicer JV baseball is next in action Wednesday, May 1st, when they will take on Munster at home. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
